AGI (Artificial General Intelligence)

Unlike today's AI systems, which are typically designed or trained for specific types of tasks, AGI would be capable of applying knowledge across different situations without requiring specialized training for each one. An AGI system could potentially reason, solve unfamiliar problems, learn from experience, understand context, and transfer knowledge between domains. AGI remains a theoretical concept, and no system is broadly recognized as having achieved it.

AGI could fundamentally change how AI is used by enabling systems to handle complex and unfamiliar tasks with greater independence. At the same time, its potential capabilities raise significant questions around safety, control, governance, accountability, and alignment with human goals.
