VGG
VGG is a family of deep convolutional neural networks designed for image recognition and computer vision tasks, known for using a simple architecture built from small 3×3 convolutional filters.
What is VGG?
VGG, developed by the Visual Geometry Group at the University of Oxford, uses multiple convolutional layers followed by pooling layers and fully connected layers. Common variants include VGG16 and VGG19, which contain 16 and 19 weight layers respectively. VGG models can also be used as pretrained models for transfer learning.
Why is VGG Important?
VGG demonstrated that increasing network depth with a consistent architecture and small convolutional filters could significantly improve image recognition performance. Although newer architectures are generally more efficient, VGG remains an important reference model in computer vision and deep learning.
Common use cases
VGG is commonly used for image classification, feature extraction, transfer learning, object recognition, and computer vision research.
