LLM (Large Language Model)
A Large Language Model (LLM) is a type of artificial intelligence model trained on massive amounts of text data to understand, generate, summarize, and reason about natural language.
What is an LLM?
LLMs are built using transformer-based neural network architectures and are trained to predict the next word or token in a sequence. Through this training process, they learn patterns in language, grammar, context, reasoning, and factual knowledge. Modern LLMs can perform a wide range of tasks, including answering questions, generating content, translating languages, writing code, summarizing documents, and interacting with external tools and data sources.
Why is an LLM Important?
LLMs have become the foundation of modern generative AI, enabling organizations to automate knowledge work, enhance productivity, and build intelligent applications. However, because LLMs may process sensitive information and interact with enterprise systems, organizations should implement appropriate security, governance, and monitoring controls to address risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, hallucinations, and unauthorized actions.
Common use cases
LLMs are commonly used in chatbots, AI agents, coding assistants, enterprise search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), document summarization, customer support, and content generation.
