Human-in-the-Loop (HITL)

HITL combines automated AI capabilities with human oversight. A human may review model outputs, correct errors, provide feedback, label data, or approve an action before it is executed. In AI agent systems, HITL can require human authorization before high-impact actions such as sending payments, modifying records, accessing sensitive information, or executing critical workflows.

AI systems can make mistakes, encounter unfamiliar situations, or generate outputs that require contextual judgment. Human oversight provides an additional layer of control for decisions where errors could have significant consequences. HITL can improve accuracy, accountability, safety, and governance while reducing the risks associated with fully autonomous AI systems.
